Nursing Care

When someone needs more than residential support, when their health needs are complex, or they require qualified nursing care around the clock, choosing the right home becomes even more important. We are here to help you get that right.

Nursing Care

What is Nursing care?

Nursing care is residential care provided by, or under the supervision of, qualified registered nurses. It is suited to people whose health needs are more complex than standard residential care can safely support, whether that means managing a long-term condition, recovering from a serious illness, living with dementia alongside physical health needs, or needing clinical support as part of daily life.

Where residential care focuses on day-to-day support, nursing care adds a clinical layer. Registered nurses are on site around the clock to manage medications, monitor health, respond to changes in condition and work closely with GPs and other healthcare professionals to make sure each resident receives the right level of support.

Both of our homes, The Gables in Oldbury and Swan House in Willenhall, provide nursing care.

Nursing Care

Who is nursing care for?

Nursing care may be the right choice if your loved one:

  • Has a long-term condition or health need that requires regular monitoring or clinical management
  • Has been assessed as needing nursing care by a GP, hospital team or social worker
  • Is living with dementia alongside physical health needs
  • Requires support with medication, wound care or other clinical tasks as part of their daily life
  • Has needs that have increased over time and are now beyond what residential care can safely provide

If you are unsure whether nursing care is the right level of support, our teams are happy to have an open and honest conversation about your situation. We can also liaise with healthcare professionals involved in your loved one's care.

Nursing Care

Our approach to nursing care

Good nursing care is not just about clinical skill. It is about combining professional support with warmth, respect and a real understanding of the person, and that is what we aim for at both The Gables and Swan House.

Our nurses work closely with experienced care staff to provide support that is safe, personal and responsive as needs change. Families are kept informed and involved throughout, because clear, honest communication is an important part of good care.

We are regularly recommended by local healthcare professionals in the Oldbury and Willenhall areas, which reflects the trust that has been built through consistent, attentive care.

The important questions

What is the difference between nursing care and residential care?

Residential care supports people with day-to-day living - help with washing, dressing, meals and activities. Nursing care includes all of that, but adds the presence of qualified nurses who can manage medications, monitor health conditions and provide clinical care as part of a person's daily routine.

How do I know if my loved one needs nursing care rather than residential care?

Usually this is assessed by a healthcare professional - a GP, a hospital discharge team or a social worker. If you are unsure, the first step is often a conversation with your loved one's GP, or you can call us and we will help you think through what is needed.

What happens if my loved one's nursing needs increase after they move in?

A person's needs can change over time, and good nursing care adapts with them. At both The Gables and Swan House, care plans are reviewed regularly and updated as needs change, so the level of support always reflects where someone is now. If needs increase significantly - for example, if someone requires a higher level of clinical input or specialist dementia nursing - we will discuss this openly with the family and make sure the right support is in place.
