Residential Care

Moving into a care home is a big step. But for many people, it is also the beginning of feeling safer, better supported and more at ease than they have in a long time. At Absolute Healthcare, we work hard to make sure it feels that way from the very first day.

Residential Care

What is Residential care?

Residential care is support for older people who need help with day-to-day living - but who do not currently require the around-the-clock clinical input of a nursing home.

It might be the right choice for someone who is finding it increasingly difficult to manage alone at home. Perhaps they need support with washing and dressing, preparing meals or taking medication. Perhaps living alone has become unsafe, or loneliness has become a significant concern. Residential care provides a warm, supported environment where those needs are met - while still giving residents as much independence and personal choice as possible.

At Absolute Healthcare, residential care sits alongside our nursing and dementia services. That means if a resident's needs change over time, we can often continue to support them.

Residential Care

Who is residential care for?

Residential care at may be the right choice if your loved one:

  • Needs regular support with day-to-day tasks such as washing, dressing or meals
  • Is finding it difficult or unsafe to continue living alone at home
  • Would benefit from company, a structured routine and a safe environment
  • Does not currently need nursing care but may benefit from a home that can provide it if needed in the future
  • Is living with mild to moderate dementia and needs support shaped around their cognitive needs

Our doors are open to adults of all ages and backgrounds. Whether someone is moving in for the first time or transitioning from another setting, our team takes the time to help them settle and feel genuinely at home.

Residential Care

Our approach to residential care

We think residential care should feel like living - not just being looked after.

At Absolute Healthcare, that means supporting every resident to maintain their independence for as long as possible, while making sure they have all the help they need. We get to know each person, what they enjoy, how they like their day to run, what matters to them, and we build their care around that.

We have no limitations on visiting hours. We believe that connection with family and friends is part of good care, not separate from it. You will always be welcome to call, visit, join for a meal or simply sit and spend time with your loved one.

I like it here at the Gables. The staff are very helpful and kind. My room is lovely and homely since they redecorated, and my family visit rather often.

Families often ask

What is the difference between residential care and nursing care?

Residential care supports people with day-to-day living and personal support. Nursing care includes this but also provides qualified registered nurses on site around the clock, for people with more complex or clinical health needs. At Swan House, we offer both - so if your loved one's needs change, they can often remain in the same home.

How do I choose the right residential care home?

It helps to visit in person, meet the manager and staff, and get a feel for the atmosphere. Ask about how care is planned and reviewed, how families are kept informed, what a typical day looks like, and how the home handles changes in a resident's needs over time. We are always happy to arrange a show round - with no pressure and no obligation.

Can my loved one bring their own furniture and personal belongings?

Yes, and we actively encourage it. Personal belongings make a real difference to how quickly someone settles and how much a room feels like their own space. Residents are welcome to bring photographs, ornaments, a favourite chair, bedding or any other items that matter to them. The only practical limit is space - we will always be clear about what fits comfortably in the room. If you are not sure what to bring, just ask us and we will help you think it through.
